INTERNATIONAL TOUR TO ISRAEL – THE HOLY LAND

SATURDAY 3rd FEBRUARY 2018

Departure from Australia to Tel Aviv Israel.

SUNDAY 4TH FEBRUARY

Upon arrival in Tel Aviv we will be met by your Travel Representatives and transferred to your hotel for rest and relaxation. In the afternoon, we will have a short city tour. We visit the ancient city of JOPPA, the place at which many Pilgrims first set foot in the Holy Land. Also home of Simon the Tanner (Acts 10). We have time to stroll through the narrow streets filled with art galleries and cafes. Dinner and overnight in Tel Aviv.

MONDAY 5TH FEBRUARY

We journey north this morning up the coast to CAESAREA, site of Herod’s Palace, home of Cornelius and where Paul was brought to trial (Acts 26). Afterwards we travel to MT CARMEL, where Elijah called down fire from Heaven to defeat the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18). We continue through the Jezreel valley, and on to Nazareth where we visit a working village set in the time of Jesus (NAZARETH VILLAGE). We make a short stop at nearby CANA, where Jesus performed His first recorded miracle (John 2). Then, as we round the crest of a hill the SEA OF GALILEE unfolds in a breathtaking panoramic scene before our eyes. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

TUESDAY 6TH FEBRUARY

After a good breakfast and morning prayers on the shore of the Sea of Galilee we drive and alight at the village of CAPERNAUM and visit the site where Jesus taught in the latter years of his ministry, then ascend to the MT OF BEATITUDES where we pause to read the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5). It is a short walk down to TABGHA, where Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes. After a lunch of St Peter’s fish at TBA, fresh from Galilee we go to Nof Ginnosar a kibbutz located on the western shores of the Galilee where we will see the remains of a fishing boat from the time of Jesus (JESUS BOAT MUSEUM). From here we take a BOAT TRIP to the middle of the Sea of Galilee and have time for reflection and singing (Luke 5). We return to TABGHA for a sunset Eucharist overlooking the lake (John 21). We return to Tiberias. Dinner and overnight

WEDNESDAY 7TH FEBRUARY

Before setting off we have morning reflections by the lake, and journey to the mountain of Transfiguration – MT TABOR. After lunch (not included), we travel to MEGIDDO, Site of the Armageddon, where 22 layers of civilization have been excavated, down to King Solomon’s Stables.  That afternoon we move on to YARDENIT, the traditional baptism site of Jesus and in the Jordan River renew our baptism promises. Dinner and overnight Tiberias.

 THURSDAY 8TH FEBRUARY

We take the road through the Golan Heights where we will hear the explanations of the strategic and political significance of this area. We see Mount Hermon, the “eyes of Israel” into Syria.  On the Golan Heights, we will visit Caesarea Philippi at Banias, which is the Site of the Transfiguration.  Proceed from Caesarea Philippi to Tel Dan. Dive back to the shore to visit the Magdala Center, the recently re-opened site with findings from the First Century, home to Mary Magdalene. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias

FRIDAY 9TH FEBRUARY

We travel south through the Jordan Valley visiting on the way the ruins of BEIT SHE’AN, one of the ancient Roman cities which would have been passed by Jesus on his way to Jerusalem. We also will visit QUMRAN where the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered and enjoy a lunch break. From there, we travel the Old Jericho road towards Jerusalem where we stop to view Wadi Kelt, and the old road from Jericho to Jerusalem (Luke 10). We make our way up to Jerusalem, and stop to see the sun set on the walls of the Holy City. On the way, we will say the Psalms of Ascent which Pilgrims said as they made their way up to the Holy City. Dinner and overnight Jerusalem

 SATURDAY 10TH FEBRUARY

Today we travel to the mighty fortress of MASADA the site of the last heroic 3-year stand of 960 Jewish defenders against the Roman Empire. From its heights (by cable car) we have tremendous views the Dead Sea. We then travel to EIN GEDI, a biblical oasis with a spring and waterfalls, where David hid from Saul. After enjoying a lunch break we visit the DEAD SEA (NEVE MIDBAR). Those who wish can ‘float’ in the medicinal waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest point in the world. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem

SUNDAY 11TH FEBRUARY

Now it is time to visit the birth place of Jesus, BETHLEHEM. This is a short drive and we take our time to visit the Church of the Nativity, the oldest church building in Christendom, and the Grotto of Christ’s birth (Luke 2). We take a short visit to the cave of St Jerome.  We return to JERUSALEM and visit the SOUTHERN STEPS, the archaeological reconstruction of the Temple Steps where Jesus walked so often.  Enter the OLD CITY.  We walk down David Street and the CARDO to the Jewish quarter and visit the WESTERN WALL, the most sacred site for the Jewish people.  Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

MONDAY 12TH FEBRUARY

We proceed to the MT OF OLIVES that overlooks the old city. We visit the Dominus Flevit Church, then descend, down the valley, to the GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE and pause to reflect on Jesus’ last hours.  We begin our walk through the OLD CITY at St Stephen’s gate, and call in to the Pool of Bethesda –John 5 – and ST ANNE’S. As a beginning to the VIA DOLOROSA or Way of the Cross we sing here. In the footsteps of thousands before us we walk the Via Dolorosa, finishing at the CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHER, the church built over the site of the hill of the cross and the empty tomb. We spend time reflecting on the death and resurrection of our Lord.  Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

TUESDAY 13TH FEBRUARY

After checking out from the hotel, we visit the new part of the city with the ISRAEL MUSEUM where you can see the scale model of the Second Temple and the special building housing the Dead Sea Scrolls.  In the afternoon, we visit the GARDEN TOMB, a quiet place and a site which has a tomb like the one in which Jesus was placed.  We make our way to the FAREWELL DINNER in Abu Gosh on the way to the airport for the evening flight home.

WEDNESDAY 14TH FEBRUARY

Arrival home with memories to share with family and friends.
