ISRAEL 2016 TOUR – with Pastor Kathy Gray

Depart Australia with our onward flight to Tel Aviv. (Meals in Flight)

Early morning arrival in Tel Aviv where we will be met by Inner Faith Travel representatives. We journey north for a coastal tour of the Mediterranean Sea ports. En route we visit Caesarea, site of Herod’s Palace, home of Cornelius and where Paul was brought to trial. Stop off at Haifa along the way, arriving at Acco for overnight.

Overnight in Acco (D)

Today we spend the morning in Acco, a UNESCO world heritage site because of the amazing Crusader underground city that is slowly being revealed. This is a very colourful and authentic market and fishing port with lots of character.  In the afternoon head north to the beautiful grottoes at Rosh Hanikra.

Overnight Acco. (B-D)

After breakfast we visit Mt Carmel and Muhraqa, where Elijah called down fire from Heaven to defeat the prophets of Baal. We continue and pass through the Megiddo Valley, the large plain where the final battle of Armageddon is prophesied to take place. Tel Megiddo is our next stop. Our journey then takes us to Nazareth where Jesus grew to manhood, visiting the Church of Annunciation which covers the boyhood home of Jesus. We spend time at Nazareth Village a recreation of village lifestyle during the time of Jesus and so experiencing the Nazareth that Jesus knew! From there we will visit the Mount of the Precipice where Jesus was driven by the crowd. Continuing on, and passing Cana, we round the crest of a hill where the SEA OF GALILEE unfolds in a breathtaking panoramic scene before our eyes.

Overnight Galilee. (B-D)

Today we explore this historical area of Galilee. Our special traditional sailing vessel will take us across the Sea of Galilee where Jesus walked on the water, stopping in the middle for a time of reflection and worship. We disembark at Nof Ginnosar, a kibbutz located on the shores of the Galilee, where we will see the remains of a boat from the time of Jesus. Arriving later to Capernaum, the city of Jesus, we visit the ruins of the synagogue where Jesus performed many miracles. We will see the new excavations of Peter’s house and visit St Peters Primacy Church. We go to Tabgha, where Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fishes to feed the multitudes and later ascend to the top of the Mount of Beatitudes, where we will read and reflect on the Sermon on the Mount.

Overnight Galilee. (B-D)

After breakfast, we travel to the Golan Heights with Mt. Hermon in the background. We will explore Tel Dan and see the remains of Jeroboam’s pagan altar, then plan to have lunch at Kfar Bloom. We journey on to Banias, and visit Caesarea Philippi, where Peter confessed his faith in Jesus, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” We finish our day on the Golan Heights.

Overnight Galilee. (B-D)

After breakfast, we journey south following the scenic Jordan Valley to visit the Decapolis city of Beit-Shean where King Saul’s body was hung on the gates of the city. We continue towards the Dead Sea stopping at the site of John’s baptism on the River Jordan and Qumran where the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered in 1947. We arrive in Masada and ascend by cable car to Herod’s magnificent summer palace and fortress for views of the Dead Sea and Jordan. After a ‘float’ in the Dead Sea we check into our hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Overnight Dead Sea (B-D)

Today, we travel to Ein Gedi, David’s refuge from King Saul, then on to visit the Tel and Elisha’s Spring near Jericho. From here we commence our journey which ascends to the Holy City, Jerusalem! But first we must pause at Wadi Kelt, to see the old winding road which so many pilgrims took as they too journeyed to and from Jerusalem. We ascend to Mount Scopus for our first view of the magnificent panorama of the Old City. We will make a brief stop at the WW1 British War Cemetery where many of our Anzacs are buried.

Overnight Jerusalem. (B-D)

Our Jewish Quarter experience will include the Cardo; a holy time of prayer at the Western Wall, the most sacred site for the Jewish people; the Temple Institute featuring authentically recreated Temple instruments, and the Burnt House, a window into time past. We ascend the Temple Mount to the Dome of the Rock, (security permitting) the site where Abraham offered up Isaac, Solomon built the first Temple and Jesus ministered to the people. The Herodian Tunnel is open for us to explore, and a scale model of the Temple Mount during the time of Herod is the highlight of our underground visit. Walk to Mt Zion and the location of the Upper Room where we will reflect on the events of the Last Supper and the birth of the Church. We finish our day at the location of Caiaphas’ House.

Overnight Jerusalem. (B-D)

This morning we make our way to the City of David archaeological site to view the excavations after which we will walk along the ancient city walls of Jerusalem getting a bird’s eye view of both the Old City and modern Jerusalem. Afternoon visit to the Garden Tomb, a spiritual oasis in this bustling city, where we will celebrate Communion together. The remainder of the day is free to explore more of the Old City, go shopping or take a rest.
